Star Wars Battlefront 3

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Thanks to my man Ata, I got a late heads up on Star Wars Battlefront 3. The Battlefront games for the original Xbox were some of my favourite releases for the system. I had a ton of fun living out some of my childhood fantasies becoming characters within the Star Wars universe and shooting Storm Troopers left, right and centre.

I’m not sure if this game will ever see the light of day with the original developer Free Radical Design going bankrupt, but the leaked trailer looks certifiably amazing (Flying from the ground straight into space without any interuption?!). There’s rumours of another developer picking up development duties for the game, but until Lucas Arts makes an official announcement of a new developer I, and presumably a legion of huge nerds, can only wonder if this game will ever see the light of day.

Wii Mario Kart

After having a copy of Wii Mario Kart kicking around the office for the past few months, I’m fairly certain that 4 player Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii is perhaps one of the greatest achievements of humankind.

The game is fast paced, amazing to control with the Wiimote (I personally enjoy playing with a virgin Wiimote rather than embedding it into the Mario Kart steering wheel), has a great variety of challenging courses (How good is Maple Treeway?), offers some of the best replay value of any game I’ve ever played and actually looks pretty darn good all things considered.

But, my favourite feature, and perhaps the best feature of all previous Mario Karts, is when four player get together and tough it out for a few laps. At the office, it’s an intense smack talk session that doesn’t end until the fourth player crosses the line. There’s no better way to blow 20 minutes in the afternoon or right after work in my opinion.
