This Day In History

August 14th, 2009 | by: Zoe Hamilton

Our friends at Fox Flight posted about Charles Godefroy’s amazing flight through L’Arc de Trimophe. I thought it was pretty cool so I decided to post it here.

On August 14th, 1918 Charles Godefroy flew a military plane through the L’Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Godefroy was discharged from the army one week prior to the flight but still managed to stump authorities by getting his hands on a Nieuport biplane. It is said that the motive of the flight was to mark the end of and honour those who faught in World War I.

Footage that was taken of the flight was to be shown immediately following the event, however, authorities prohibited its release. 91 years later it is up on YouTube for all to enjoy.

Digg it!
